How Did I Get Here?

Hey! I’m Alison Langtry, from the UK. I was the kind of person with a full professional diary and another calendar hanging at home filled with social dates. It was over ten years ago, and I had just regained consciousness in hospital, having survived a horrific assault. A double blow to my head resulted in a black eye and a misaligned jaw that needed stitching, and I awoke surrounded by “angels”.

I was left with hypopituitarism and little support from the National Health Service (NHS). I guess they didn’t want to foot the bill for ongoing medication.

It Gets Worse Before it Gets Better

A few years later, I caught Lyme Disease due to being a pet-lover (fleas) with a failing immune system. More rejections from the NHS. So, it was goodbye to career, home, savings, and social life. Friends started to dwindle. I don’t blame them; they became friends with a business-driven socialite, which I could no longer be. I hit rock bottom.

My life started to improve when I realised the NHS would never help me, and I stopped begging them for help. I started to reclaim as much health as possible with diet changes, herbal medicine, and endocrine support. A big part of recovery was keeping my mind in a positive place.

One of the most life-changing moments for me was when Jesus appeared to me in a dream. I’d asked him for a sign that I would be “okay.” He painted me a cloud on an easel, and when I woke up and pulled back the curtains, there it was, just like He had promised. That moment reminded me that even when we feel alone or forgotten, He is always near, reaching out with love and reassurance.

Healing, Connections and Finding Jesus

Connecting with people who understood what I was going through became a massive part of my healing. I first joined a few social media groups, but before long, I felt led to create my own little “tribe.” That’s how Housebound Friends came to life — a small, welcoming space where people living with disabilities could find friendship, encouragement, and a reminder that none of us are walking this journey alone.

Our community is made up of folks with chronic illnesses, physical disabilities, and everything in between — all looking for connection, comfort, and something bigger to hold onto. After about ten years of living that “hermit life,” I felt God nudging me to take another step, and that’s when I started blogging to share what I’ve learned (and am still learning!).
